FOOD TRUCK QUICK BITE: IZZY'S CHEESESTEAKS

What to do on a sunny, breezy Sunday afternoon? As is want for me and the SO, we headed out to SOMA StrEat Food Park to see if any new truck was shaking it on this day. Surprisingly there was more than one making an appearance and seeing as how we had just gotten back from vacation, I was still on the eat anything vibe, including carbs, and found myself making eyes and footsteps towards Izzy's Cheesesteak truck to see what cheesy meatiness they had to offer.

Their menu offers up a fair number choice flavor combos of which you get them in either standard steak, chicken or (if you really must) some kind of vegetarian thing. Since I'd done a whole week of that vegan thing already, I was gonna go full meat today.

After a short perusal I landed on they called the "srirachacha". I chose to go with chicken instead of beef just because. It comes on a toasted hoagie roll and while the menu said grilled onions (of which I did get) it also had an abundance of jalapenos, my choice of cheese--provolone and a creamy sriracha sauce. Yeah, not a classic cheesesteak, but this is San Francisco, why would I do that? It's a pretty big sandwich that is several mouthfuls. I will say right off the bat there were way too many jalapenos and I had to pull them off. I like a spicy kick but combined with the sriracha, for me it was just a bit too much. The rest, however, was pretty good. Chicken was plentiful and not dry (yeah!). Also, lots of cheesy sauce like goodness mixed for some pleasant gooeyness. I would have liked some more grilled onions (and some mushrooms), but that will be something to remember to ask for next time. The sriracha sauce was also creamy and spicy, but not too much that it's gonna burn your tongue off, thus the reason it didn't really need the jalapeno addition. Considering it's size and overall heartiness, I'm also not going to quibble too much about it's $9.50 price either. I mean, I could, considering how you folks know I feel about $10 sandwiches in this town--but I won't, for now.

Since it hit my hunger spot of the moment, I'm giving Izzy's the should try go ahead. When I decide to eat carbs again (white bread people!) I'm willing to hit them up again while still going full on meat and go with something with the steak, and extra grilled onions and maybe some cheeze wiz and mushrooms, yeah, gotta remember to ask for shrooms.
