Places I've Eaten

all good pizza....so i was walking in bayview when...

Welcome to single serving week wherein I try the dish at a place that because it is what they do. They might do one or two other things, but these are what they are known for. My first stop was over in Bayview at All Good Pizza. I had been there twice before sometime ago, but had not reviewed it. Thus, one randomly sunny Sunday, I found myself out and about and walking down 3rd street headed specifically to have some pizza. The things we do for pizza!

Located on a corner, it is more food truck like than an actual restaurant. Everything is cooked in a trailer permanently parked on a wood fenced in lot. There are wood picnic tables scattered about and a large lean to like structure toward the that can offer covering if it rains. It has that funky vibe of only in San Francisco, hidden gem, can't believe this is in Bayview kind of place. I mean just look at it!

All Good Pizza

I think they call this shabby chic or reclaimed charm? But you know me, it ain't about the ambiance, though this has it in spades....and wood chips. Now, as you can see on the trailer, the do a bit more than pizza, but when it is in your name, seems best to go with what's in the name. They have 11 styles to choose from all in one size and I'm in a meat mood! Looks like I'm getting a sausage pizza and for giggles I paid the $2 upcharge for mushrooms making the final cost $15. Pretty standard for this 12 inch sized pie in San Francisco.

sausage and mushroom pizza

A Neapolitan style, think crust brick oven baked pizza with house made tomato sauce, ricotta, red onion, mushroom, Italian sausage, fresh basil, mozzarella, chili flakes and capers. Each pie is cooked to order, so does take a bit, but you get a hot crispy pizza for sure.

The crust is especially nice, crispy and almost cracker like, something I am a fan of. And it doesn't suffer from soggy tip syndrome either! You can taste each of the ingredients clearly and I really liked the addition of ricotta dollops on top. Their creaminess helps balance some of the spicy of the chili flakes. Even more would have been great too. Sausage had a hint of spice, the mushrooms were earthy and the basil really brightened it up.

I think I would have liked a tad more cheese and maybe a slightly better distribution of ingredients around the crust. When you think of pizza, cheese is one of the first things to come to mind and the mozzarella gets somewhat lost here. I won't offer that as too big a knock since it is thin crust, but, you know, it is my main reason for getting pizza.

While I can't say it was "all good pizza," I can say it was "pretty darn good pizza," and I would still recommend it as an option if you are looking to try something, new and (far) off the beaten path in SF. The crust is lovely and crunchy and the ingredients are fresh and lively. Enough for me to slightly look beyond the light handed cheese. But everyone has different tastes and I think All Good Pizza will definitely satisfy you enough to make your journey out to Bayview worthwhile.
