your weekly nosh of sf food news...so many closings

three tacos

You know how it is, you are wandering around The Mission waiting for an event to begin and suddenly you realize how hungry you are and want to grab a quick bite. Then is when you figure any old taqueria will do because how hard can it be to make a semi-decent taco? So I walked into the first one I came across and probably should have taken it as a sign that no one else was in this tiny hole in the wall on a prime Saturday bar hopping night. Still, I soldiered on and ordered a carne asada, carnitas and lengua--that's beef tongue. At the time I thought why not, after taking my first bite, I was like what was I thinking! The meat on each was either overcooked or had some kind mealy texture or both. While there was a pre-ponderance of cilantro on them there wasn't near enough green tomatillo sauce to make me want to finish any of them. You are probably wondering which one it was but I'm not gonna say as it might have been a one off that night, but let's just say their inside decor was vaguely fast food like. I might be willing to give them another shot too. Though it will be awhile before that tongue taste washes off my own tongue. Till then, food news at its finest!!

That's it for now. Be sure to check back soon as I wrap up my visit to La Cocina's Street Food Festival which returned after a one year hiatus.
