Jalapeno cornbread and a little food news

sweet jalapeno cornbread

I think I mentioned previously a new cafe had opened near my abode and I finally got around to going into Cafe Lambretta and seeing what baked goods they have on offer. To be honest, not a lot. Some croissants, a cinnamon bun (no frosting) kind of thing, something they are calling a biscuit but looks more like a flat square--one with cheese on top and one without and then sweet jalapeno cornbread. It is another of those mini loaf things which seem to be popular in coffee shops along with charging $3 for it. I am a fan of cornbread thus that is what I gravitated towards. My initial impression was oh, they call it sweet, meaning they probably adde some sugar in while making, but in truth, it was not all that sweet but more like what cornbread should taste like. The jalapenos were interesting though seems they had been de-seeded and didn't really add any off setting spicy flavor to the sweet. Neither did those little flecks of red pepper you see above. The bread itself was also kind of sticky, but hey, at least it wasn't dry! In my taste world this was somewhat better when I heated it up and added butter, as are so many things in the baked goods world. I can't say I was overly loving it by any means. Decent, just not "I need to go try this." I actually stopped by here a number of days in a row and the offerings were the same each day, leaving me uninspired to try others. I'm not saying I won't go back and possibly try one of their salads or sandwiches, but as far as these goodies go, I will wait until the selection either changes or gets upgraded somehow. Till then, lets chow on some food news.
