Yes! Here I am back at Les Gourmands Bakery for another French sugar fix. This time I got a big 'un called the "Pepito." It is sugar bread with an inside filing of custard and mini chocolate chips. At $6.50 it might fall on the pricey side of things for a baked good, but for the most part, it was the size of a sub sandwich which is the trade off when considering the price of actual sandwiches in this town. The dough, while puffed up, was still thick, sweet and bready. The custard filling was ample throughout and the chocolate chips were of the dark variety helping keep it from being overly sweet all together. It really was like a having a custard sub sandwich and there is more than enough for two people to equally share and enjoy this so I won't quibble too much about the price. Whenever I take about having desserts with heft, this is the kind of thing I'm talking about. Hearty bread, lots of filling and just the right kick of sugar that when I'm done gorging on it, I really feel satisfied with what I've had. This is more than just an afternoon snack as you may be prone to a nap attack afterwards. Best to have a bit at a time and spread the sweet joy of it throughout your day. And here's some food news to wash it all down with. 

• Looks like someone is planning some major expansions. I guess losing on Top Chef has pushed her to try new things?
• And so goes a bakery in the Outer Richmond. So long Heartbaker and my pastry heart. 
• Seems Shake Shack could possibly, maybe, might be, sort of trying to finally open here in SF. Though you can head down to Palo Alto for their first West Coast location. 
• How farm to table is your restaurant? Do you even care?
• Contrada hires a new executive chef and becomes a first in San Francisco. 
• The Vestry restaurant at The Chapel is no more. What plans do they have for reincarnation?
• Hey! The Hotel Kabuki has a new bar! They really want you to know. 
• After allegations at Chef Hallowell's restaurants, their managers are asking for divestment. 
• Thrillist seems to think these are foolproof date ideas when it's chilly outside. Stow Lake? Really?
• Well, at least it isn't only Korea Tartine is expanding to, they are adding to their SF Empire. 
• If you want to escape the city for um, San Rafael, they are having an artisan cheese festival. 
• Hmmm, in praise of the breakfast sandwich? Anyone who reads my post knows I've been doing this for years. Looks like I've got a new place in an obscure part of town to try. 
• Sleeping more may cut down your sweet tooth!! Noooo!!! I guess it is time for some all nighters. 
• Okay, so seems like Four Barrel Coffee won't be Tide after all. Does it really matter anymore?
• Now that there is a Krispy Kreme in SF, they are asking for help in choosing their next flavor. Too bad they narrowed the choices down already, would have been interesting to see what the internet would have come up with. 
• After 20 years!! Park Chow closes it's doors and back patio. But you can still dine at their Church St. and new Oakland(?) location. 
• And there are still a slew of new spots with openings on the horizon including another Dominique Crenn place. 
• Finally, don't forget, SF Restaurant Week is this week, so get out and eat!
